Common types of Boats and Personal Watercraft
Houseboat insurance
Houseboats are usually much larger boats that are designed for slower movement and have full kitchens, bathrooms, bedrooms and other common areas. For houseboats, you might want to get coverage for gear/carry-on items. This will insure your cell phones, fishing equipment, clothes or other personal property on board up to $10,000. Unfortunately, houseboats used as a primary residence cannot be insured on your boat policy.
Sailboat insurance
A boat that uses at least one sail for power but may also have a motor for an additional power source. Sailboat insurance costs for vessels without motors are usually a little bit lower.
Bass boat insurance
This is similar to fishing boat insurance or insurance for any other pleasure watercraft. Consider our coverage for gear or carry-on items. With this, you get full replacement cost up to $10,000 for all your fishing gear or personal property you carry on your boat.
Personal watercraft insurance
Common Personal Water Crafts include Jet Skis, Sea Doos, Waverunners or similar vessels usually for one to three people. You can get very similar coverage, but for the most part, Personal Water Crafts are more affordable to insure.
Pontoon boat insurance
A boat built on pontoons (usually hollow metal cylinders) with a flat surface to walk or sit on. Many pontoons are designed for slow movement on inland lakes and rivers.
Coverage in this program includes
Coverage For Injury Or Damage That You Cause To Someone Else (BI & PD)
Bodily Injury and Property Damage Liability Coverage covers your legal liability for an accident where there is damage or injury for someone else up to the limit of liability you select. Your insurance company pays for the cost to replace or repair damaged property, the medical bills and wage loss incurred by an injured person, and other damages you are legally obligated to pay as result of an accident.
Coverage For Damage To Or Theft Of Your Boat/Personal Watercraft (Comprehensive & Collision)
Comprehensive and Collision Coverage covers the cost to repair or replace your watercraft if it is stolen or damaged in an accident, no matter who is at fault. You share in this cost by paying a deductible. Under Collision Coverage, your insurance company pays for damage caused when you collide with another vehicle or object. Under Comprehensive Coverage, your insurance company pays for damage caused by an event other than collision, such as fire, theft, or vandalism.
Coverage For Injuries Caused By An Uninsured Boater (optional coverage)
Uninsured Boater Bodily Injury Coverage pays for medical treatment, wage loss, and other damages you would have received from the other person’s insurance company, had they been insured. (This coverage is not offered for personal watercraft policies.)
Coverage For Your Injuries (Medical Payments, optional coverage)
Medical Payments Coverage covers the cost of necessary medical care provided to you as a result of a boating accident and applies no matter who is at fault. The coverage covers persons in your boat, named policy holder for personal watercraft, and is the only coverage on the policy that will pay for injuries caused while water-skiing. The coverage is often limited to medical care you get in the first one, two, or three years after the accident and is limited to a specific dollar amount. In some states, this coverage only applies after other medical insurance is exhausted.
Total Loss Replacement Cost (optional coverage)
This coverage is available for new boats purchased within the preceding 13 months. We’ll replace total losses with the latest model or, if not available, a comparable model. If you elect not to replace the watercraft, we will pay the rating base amount.
On-Water Towing and Labor (optional coverage)
This pays for towing and labor costs up to $300 per occurrence. The labor coverage applies when it is performed at the time and place of the disablement, while the watercraft is in the water.
Replacement Cost for Personal Effects (optional coverage)
Pays up to the specified replacement cost limits for loss of, or damage to, your watercraft’s contents that are normally used in conjunction with the boat. ($100 deductible for theft applies.)
